Sphere Medical and Olivetti work together
to improve critical care monitoring

Farnham, Surrey, UK: 27 November 2006

Sphere Medical Holding plc, the Cambridge, UK, based medical microtech company
developing next-generation critical care patient monitoring systems, is pleased to
announce that it has entered into an agreement with Olivetti through its subsidiary
Olivetti I-Jet SpA, Arnad, Italy, to manufacture its proprietary microsensor chips. The
microsensor chip is a key component of Sphere’s critical care monitoring platform
which demanded Sphere working with a world leader in this area.

Following a comprehensive evaluation of the leading potential providers, Olivetti I-Jet
demonstrated a significant track record of capability together with the proven ability to
manufacture the high volumes of chips that will ultimately be required.

The Sphere system measures key blood parameters, such as glucose, blood gases,
and electrolytes, in critical care patients. Real time monitoring of drugs, physiological
parameters, and disease markers has the potential to facilitate titration and, ultimately,
closed loop control of a broad variety of therapies.

Dr. Stuart Hendry, Sphere Medical’s CEO, said: “Olivetti is a recognised leader with
world class experience, by partnering with them, together with our other world class
partners, Sphere will further strengthen our position in the development of the next
generation of critical care monitoring systems, which will give doctors improved
control over the therapy delivered to potentially transform patient outcomes.”

Dr. Roberto Della Marina, Technology Innovation Director from Olivetti I-Jet SpA
said: “We are extremely pleased to work with Sphere Medical. Sphere Medical is an
ideal partner in cooperation to show the world the very best of what both companies
have to offer: technology leadership and customer/patient centric innovation. This
collaboration will definitely allow Olivetti to extend its pre-eminence in manufacturing
innovative MEMS devices in crucial fields like patient critical care.”
